CFG038 command dumps environment variables to the network
Severity: error
OWASP: LLM02:2026 – Sensitive Information Disclosure
What cfgaudit checks
A command that dumps the environment and sends it over the network exfiltrates every secret in the shell in one shot — ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, cloud credentials, tokens, and more. cfgaudit flags a command site (hook or command-running helper) when it contains both:
- an env-dump primitive —
env |(piped),printenv, orexport -p, and - a network tool —
curl,wget,nc/ncat/netcat, orsocat.
Requiring both avoids false positives: env VAR=x some-cmd (the var-setting prefix form, no pipe) and a bare printenv for debugging (no network tool) do not fire.

Safe alternative
Hooks should never serialize the environment to the network. If a hook needs a specific value, reference that one variable explicitly and send only what is required to a trusted endpoint — never the whole environment.
